ANNAPOLIS, MD — The military may repair its Annapolis seawalls that protect the U.S. Naval Academy and the Severn River Navy station, the Capital Gazette reported on May 4. Journalist Heather Mongilio noted that this would restore aging structures and protect the properties from sea-level rise.

The Capital explained that the Navy started developing a resiliency plan last September, but the proposal could take 16 months total to finish. The phased construction would then take 10 to 20 years, Mongilio added.

The news outlet mentioned that the Navy is considering four potential builds of varying strengths. The most resilient option would combat 75 years of sea-level rise, Mongilio wrote.
