ANNAPOLIS, MD — Flying Dog Brewery announced a new beer on Monday called Chesapeake Wheat Ale. A portion of the proceeds will help restore local waters.

For every beer sold, the Frederick-based brewing company will donate 10 baby oysters to plant in the Chesapeake Bay. These oysters will help clean the water and make the ecosystem healthier.

"We believe it is vital to come together to help the Bay thrive," Flying Dog spokesperson Ben Savage said in a press release. "We love that we get to do our part by doing what we do best, making delicious beer."

One oyster can filter 50 gallons of water per day. Over the past 10 years, Flying Dog has helped plant 5 million oysters in the bay. The decade-long project has benefited the Oyster Recovery Partnership, an Annapolis nonprofit that creates a sustainable oyster population.

"The scale and scope of our oyster restoration footprint is only as successful as our partnerships," Director of Partnerships Paul Schurick said in the release. "Lucky for us, the folks at Flying Dog are true advocates and steadfast supporters of a healthier Chesapeake Bay."

The 12 oz. beer comes in six and 12 packs. The brew "has a light body and crisp finish" that balances "slight bitterness with fruity [and] citrus hop notes."

The 5 percent alcohol drink will be available year-round. Customers can find a vendor at flyingdog.com/beer-finder.
