MARYLAND — Pay-By-Plate happens to be a new payment option that’s a hassle-free way to pay Maryland tolls. After opening an account, tolls are automatically billed to a registered credit card each time you use Maryland facilities, with no need for a transponder or pre-paid toll balance. It may be used on vehicles with 10 axles or less.

This account type requires vehicle information and valid credit card information for processing payment. When a vehicle’s license plate is read by MDTA tolling equipment, the credit card on your pay-by-plate account is charged for the toll.
