No ICU Hospitalizations Reported In Anne Arundel For First Time
Anne Arundel's ICU hospitalizations hit zero for the first time last week. Numbers are low as ever, as nearly half the county is vaccinated.
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Anne Arundel County posted zero Intensive Care Unit hospitalizations on June 9 and June 10. These were the first two times that the county had nobody in the ICU since it started tracking local hospitalization data on April 2, 2020. One person was in the ICU as of Sunday, and three coronavirus patients overall were in the hospital.
Around 49 percent of Anne Arundel County residents are fully inoculated. About 56 percent have gotten at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

In other news, the coronavirus case rate is at its best clip since March 2020. The hospitalization count is at its lowest mark ever. Plus, the percent positivity is at a record low.

Last week's 50 cases are down four from the week prior. This was the second time the county tallied less than 100 new infections in a week since March 2020.
This is also the sixth straight week that Anne Arundel posted less than 500 cases in a seven-day span. Before this stretch, the county hadn't accomplished the feat since the week before Halloween. A 2.5-month spike followed the holiday.

That surge ended in January. The county has since recorded less than 1,000 new cases for 17 straight weeks.
The virus also killed six county residents last week, which is one more than the seven days prior, the Maryland Department of Health said. Here's a look at where the numbers stand in Anne Arundel County.
Full Vaccinations
- Currently: 49.22 percent
- Trend: Up by 2.21 percentage points
- Rank: 8th out of the state's 24 jurisdictions
- Trend: No change
- Comments: New full immunizations sped up slightly last week, ending two straight weeks of decline, but they still fell short of the record high. New full inoculations have declined in six of the past nine weeks.

At Least One Dose
- Currently: 55.57 percent
- Trend: Up by 0.86 percentage points
This is the percentage of residents who have gotten at least one dose of the inoculation. The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines both require two shots. The Johnson & Johnson immunization only has one injection.

- Currently: 1.23
- Trend: Down by 0.32
- Comments: New cases declined for the ninth straight week. Before that, infections climbed for seven consecutive weeks. This is the lowest clip since March 26, 2020.

- Overall High: 64.99 on Jan. 12
- Overall Low: 0.47 on March 23, 2020
Hospitalizations
- Currently: 3
- Trend: Down by 10
- Comments: Hospitalizations dropped for the ninth straight week. They have dipped by 83 in this span. This is the lowest mark the county has ever seen during the coronavirus pandemic.

- Recent Low: 3 on June 13
- Overall High: 172 on April 21, 2020
- Overall Low: 3 on June 13
ICU Hospitalizations
- Currently: 1
- Trend: Down by 1
- Comments: ICU hospitalizations fell for the third straight week. They have declined in five of the last six weeks. The count was even lower last Wednesday and Thursday when nobody was in the ICU. This was the first time Anne Arundel County accomplished this feat since it started tracking local hospitalization data on April 2, 2020.

Positivity Rate
- Currently: 0.8 percent
- Trend: Down by 0.61 percentage points
- Comments: The positivity rate declined for the ninth straight week. It was on a six-week hike before that. This is the lowest percent positivity the county has ever had.

- Recent Low: 0.8 percent on June 13
- Overall High: 28.16 percent on April 16, 2020
- Overall Low: 0.8 percent on June 13
Total Cases And Deaths
Anne Arundel County's 43,891 coronavirus infections are the fifth most in the state. The virus is blamed for the death of 642 county residents.
