ANNAPOLIS, MD — Police said they arrested an Edgewater man on May 3 after locals heard gunshots around an Annapolis motel. Officers reported finding a vehicle with a shattered window at the Village Inn, located at 69 Old Mill Bottom Road. They also indicated that they spotted an empty handgun magazine outside one of the rooms around 10:48 p.m.

An incident report mentioned that police spoke with the guest of that room and noticed that he had bullets in plain sight from the open door. Officers noted that they secured a search warrant for the accused man's room and vehicle and found a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun. Officers explained that the suspect cannot legally own guns nor ammunition.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department identified the arrestee as 43-year-old Gene Audie Bittinger Jr.
