Maryland State Workers Get Day Off On Christmas Eve

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has declared a state holiday and the closure of state government offices on Christmas Eve — Monday, Dec. 24.

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Gov. Larry Hogan on Thursday declared that Maryland state government agencies and offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, in observance of Christmas Eve.

“Since this year Christmas falls on Tuesday and is a state holiday, I am also declaring this Christmas Eve as a holiday so that our hard-working employees can spend more time enjoying the holidays with their loved ones,” the governor said in announcing the day off. “This is just another way we can show our appreciation to our dedicated state workers.”

Under Hogan's declaration, Monday will be treated like any other state employee holiday.

Christmas Day, Dec. 25, is also a federal holiday. Next week, federal workers will get Monday off under an executive order signed Tuesday night by President Donald Trump.

The order says that some federal workers may have to go in to work for national security reasons or other needs, the Washington Post reported. Agency heads also have the discretion to determine whether certain offices need to remain open.
