Trash Fee Could Increase In Anne Arundel: Report
The trash fee in Anne Arundel County could increase for the first time in nearly a decade, the Capital Gazette reported.
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman proposed increasing the annual trash and recycling collection fee by $43, the Capital Gazette reported on May 12. Journalist Danielle Ohl explained that this would raise the yearly cost from $298 to $341. The Capital mentioned that this would be the first price hike in nine years.
Ohl noted that Anne Arundel has tried to cut costs for several years, but depleting reserves forced the county's hand. Diminishing demand for recycled materials hasn't helped either, the Capital added.
This potential spike is not yet official. The Anne Arundel County Council will vote on Pittman's suggested budget on June 14. The fee will only take effect if the council approves the budget without amending this clause.
