United Way Awards $50K to Lighthouse Shelter
The grants are part of a $2.7 million effort by United Way in central Maryland.

The United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) announced today that $2.7 million of grants will be awarded to nonprofits helping the area's poor, with $419,000 being awarded to organizations in Anne Arundel County.
Among the organizations that benefited from the grants are the Lighthouse Shelter in Annapolis.
"These grants to 71 nonprofit programs across central Maryland allow us to work together toward our overall goal of creating self-sufficient families, stronger communities and a more successful region for us all," said UWCM President and CEO Mark Furst.
Each jurisdiction focused their grants based on the area's need, and many of them focus on assisting groups educate children of low-income families.Â
