Wanted: Simple Recipes with Maryland-Produced Ingredients
The annual Buy Local Cookout, which will be held in Annapolis in July, features winning recipes prepared with locally produced food.

It's time for the annual callout for chefs to submit original recipes using Maryland ingredients for the "Buy Local Cookout" to be held at Government House in Annapolis in July.
Submissions must be made by teams that include one chef and at least one Maryland food producer and/or farmer. Entrants last year ranged from professional chefs to a recent high school graduate, who planned to make cooking her career.
Recipes must be submitted by May 6 and should:

- Include products from at least one Maryland farmer, waterman or other local producer
- Showcase ways the average Maryland family can prepare delicious, nutritious meals with locally produced food at home

The cookout on July 25, from 7 to 9 p.m., promotes the statewide Buy Local Challenge Week (July 20-28) when all Marylanders are encouraged to eat at least one local product each day of the week.
A highlight of last year's cookout was when Gov. Martin O'Malley sang and played guitar.
