What's Open, Closed For Christmas, New Year's In Annapolis

Here's your guide to what's open and closed on Christmas and New Year's in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The holidays are for spending time with loved ones. Before you go, it's wise to check on what's open and closed in the area. Knowing which services will be available on Christmas and New Year's will save you time and a massive headache, especially if you need to make a last-minute grocery run.

Government offices, libraries, schools, museums, recreation centers and businesses all have their own opening and closing hours during this holiday week. Here's a schedule for Annapolis and Anne Arundel County residents:

City of Annapolis Offices — Closed on Christmas Eve (Monday, Dec. 24) and Christmas Day (Tuesday, Dec. 25). Also closed on New Year’s Day (Tuesday, Jan. 1).

Anne Arundel County Offices – Closed on Christmas Eve (Monday, Dec. 24) and Christmas Day (Tuesday, Dec. 25). Offices reopen at 8 a.m on Dec. 26.

City of Annapolis Recreation – The Pip Moyer Rec Center will close early at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24, remain closed on Dec. 25, close early at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31, and remain closed on Jan. 1.

City of Annapolis Services – The Stanton Community Center will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24; Tuesday, Dec. 25; and Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Anne Arundel Recreation and Parks — On Dec. 24, the Glen Burnie Ice Rink will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Quiet Waters Park ice rink will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All regional parks and other facilities will be closed, including swim centers and recreation centers. On Dec. 25, all Recreation and Parks facilities will be closed.

Anne Arundel Libraries – All public libraries will be closed from Sunday, Dec. 23, through Tuesday, Dec. 25, for the Christmas holiday.

Annapolis Transit — No service on Tuesday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Jan. 1. On Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, Annapolis Transit will operate a regular weekday service, but no evening Purple Route.

City of Annapolis Refuse/Recycling Pickup — No changes to refuse and recycling on Dec. 24 or Dec. 31, but on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, there will be no services. Tuesday collection customers will be shifted by one day, so if your normal collection day is on Tuesday, then collection will occur on Wednesday. There will be no yard or bulk collection on Wednesday, Dec. 26, or Wednesday, Jan. 2, to accommodate the shifted collection schedule.

Anne Arundel County Refuse/Recycling Pickup:

  • Christmas Eve - Normal
  • Christmas Day - Closed - Tuesday collections occur Wednesday
  • New Year's Day - Closed - Tuesday collections occur Wednesday

State Offices – Closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan 1

Anne Arundel Courts – Closed on Dec. 25 and Jan 1
