County Announces Holiday Schedule for Senior Centers
Senior activity centers will be closed Christmas Eve through New Year's Day.
Anne Arundel County announced the holiday schedule on Tuesday for area senior centers: They will close Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day, and non-senior center nutrition sites will remain open Dec. 24, 26-28, and 31.
Here are details released from the county:
Annapolis, MD (Dec. 18, 2012) - Anne Arundel County Senior Activity Centers will be closed from Dec. 24, 2012 through Jan. 1, 2013. Attendance and meal participation the week between Christmas and New Year’s are historically low at the senior centers. Closing these centers will save on transportation and utility costs.
As county government is closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, there will be no Nutrition Program at any locations on those dates. However, the
Nutrition Program will operate at all locations except the senior
centers on Dec. 24, 26-28, and 31.
In order to offer a meal to individuals who depend on the senior center nutrition sites, the department will offer van transportation to a nutrition site closest to each senior center to Nutrition Program
participants.
As the Nutrition Program is a federal program, all properties must
allow seniors over the age of 60 an opportunity to have a meal if they choose. A system will be in place for those who want to reserve a meal to ride a Department van to the nutrition site specified by the Van Program during Dec. 24, 26-28, and 31.
Regular van riders who want to attend a nutrition site during those
dates were previously notified about alternate meal and van
arrangements.
Self-drivers who attend the following senior activity centers must make meal arrangements for themselves by calling a nutrition site a week in advance:
