Confederate Flag, Noose Found At Chesapeake High: Reports

Police officers and an administrator found the items Wednesday in a student's pickup truck, says principal.

PASADENA, MD — A student at Chesapeake High School is facing disciplinary action after a noose and a Confederate flag were found in his pickup truck, according to media reports. A school staff member saw the truck driving through the school’s parking lot Wednesday morning with the battle flag flying from the back, the Capital Gazette reported.

Wednesday was the 50th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The school's principal said an administrator and two police officers assigned to the school found the Confederate flag in the truck's bed, and the noose and a pair of dice decorated with Confederate flags hanging from the truck’s rear-view mirror, the Capital Gazette reported.

The appearance of the Confederate flag is the latest in a series of racial incidents at Chesapeake High School. For example, in February a threat was made against the school targeting African-American students, the newspaper reported.
