End of Semester Approaches for AACPS Students

The scheduled semester break for Anne Arundel County Public Schools students could shift if there is inclement weather.

As Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) high school students prepare for mid-term exams to be held Jan. 22-25, parents are reminded that the semester break could shift if there is inclement weather that causes schools to close on a testing day. All AACPS students are currently scheduled off on Jan. 28 and 29.

Note that AACPS students have a special day set aside this year for their participation in the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge.

The original date for students to plunge was Jan. 25 but, due to exams, the state police agreed to reschedule Anne Arundel students' plunge to Feb. 1.

The announcement from AACPS regarding the exam schedule says:

The Board-approved calendar calls for four consecutive days of high school semester exams for high school students on the days preceding the break. Thus, if inclement weather forces a closing of schools on any of the testing days – January 22 through 25 – the semester break will be shifted back accordingly. Regardless of shifts, the break will remain two days.

High school exams will be administered according to the following schedule:

● January 22: B Day, periods 1 and 2
● January 23: A Day, periods 1 and 2
● January 24: B Day, periods 3 and 4
● January 25: A Day, periods 3 and 4

Should inclement weather force a closing on one of the exam dates, the schedule will be shifted but exams will still be administered in the order listed above.
