Information for Residents with Grinder Pumps, Property in Critical Area

Councilman Dick Ladd (R-5th District) addressed Anne Arundel County residents with grinder pumps and property in the critical area in his current column on Broadneck Patch.

Ladd wrote that "DPW has agreed to allow private, whole house generators (not to be confused with portable generators) to provide emergency backup power to grinder pumps."

He added that information on the requirements will soon be distributed to residents with grinder pump systems.

On another topic, Ladd noted that changes required by the state's critical area law are included in the county's proposed Bill 93-12.

"The legislation will strengthen the administration and enforcement of the County’s critical area program by substantially increasing (doubling) certain fines, increasing fees (20-25%) and making certain technical changes," Ladd wrote. 

A public hearing for Bill 93-12 is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the County Council Chambers located at 44 Calvert St. in Annapolis.
