Orioles Host Screening of "42" for Local Baseball Players

The Baltimore Orioles and Major League Baseball (MLB) are hoping to inspire local athletes with a private screening of "42" about Hall of Fame player Jackie Robinson on Thursday.

Nearly 300 baseball and softball players from high schools in Anne Arundel County will watch the movie at Hoyt's West Nursery Cinemas in Linthicum. Before the screening, they will also hear from former Oriole Ken Dixon on Robinson's impact by breaking the color barrier in baseball.

Athletes from Annapolis, Arundel, Broadneck, Chesapeake, Glen Burnie, Meade, North County, Northeast, Old Mill, Severna Park, South River and Southern High Schools will attend the screening.

MLB has hosted private screenings of "42" throughout the country, with all 30 major league baseball teams hosting private screenings for students.

In April, Orioles All-Star outfielder Adam Jones hosted a screening for more than 100 players and coaches from the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) League. Orioles players also wore jerseys with the number 42 on April 16, which earned $23,000 at auction for the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation.
