Outgoing Chief Tolliver Honored by Police Department

Members of the Anne Arundel County Police Department and local community shared their appreciation for Larry Tolliver, who is resigning after a second stretch as police chief.

Anne Arundel County Police Chief Larry Tolliver announced his resignation this week and the department honored his 40 years of service Friday morning at police headquarters in Millersville.

Tolliver's resignation is effective May 21—there has not been an official announcement about who will replace him.

More than 40 people, officers and civilian employees, gathered for a presentation of a plaque to Tolliver in appreciation for his decades of service in Anne Arundel County, according to police spokesperson Justin Mulcahy.

"He reminded the crowd that people and relationships are most important," Mulcahy said.

Tolliver took the position August 2012, after previous chief James Teare Sr. resigned amid a criminal investigation. Tolliver also served as police chief in the county from 1997 to 1998. He has stated that his resignation is voluntary and unrelated to the police department investigation being conducted by County Executive Laura Neuman.
