Pasadena Man Dies in Motorcycle Accident

James Alton Cockrell was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead on the scene.

A motorcyclist killed Saturday along Nabbs Creek Road in Glen Burnie has been identified as James Alton Cockrell of Pasadena, according to police information released Sunday.

Cockrell had just left the Nabbs Creek Cafe with his motorcycle group when they reached a sharp curve near the intersection of Francis Road. That's when a car supposedly crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, according to a police press release.

To avoid a collision, another motorcyclist laid down his bike in the roadway. Cockrell hit the brakes on his bike and veered into a wooden area on the side of the road. He was ejected from the bike. Cockrell was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in this case, police said.

Another motorcyclist, described as a 55-year-old man, landed in leaves. He refused treatment at first, but fire officials were called back to the scene, a fire department spokesman said on Saturday.
