PASADENA, MD — A 27-year-old Pasadena man has pled guilty to the first degree murder and second degree rape of his 21-year-old girlfriend in September 2018. He will be sentenced in December.

"Megan Burdeaux didn't deserve to lose her life in such a tragic manner at the hands of Edgar Manning, who violently stole her future. His cruel and senseless acts against a person he supposedly cared for will forever hurt Ms. Burdeaux's family and friends," said Anne Arundel County State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess.

On Sept. 25, 2018, Prince George's County police received a call from Edgar Franklin Manning IV's parents who told them that he had killed his girlfriend, who was later identified as Megan Burdeaux of Glen Burnie. Manning was driving his van at the time, so Prince George's County police began tracking his cell phone. Anne Arundel County police began tracking his vehicle when he crossed over the county line near Odenton.

On Sept. 26, 2018, Anne Arundel County police found Manning's vehicle on Burns Crossing Road in Gambrills. Officers found Manning inside the vehicle and Burdeaux's body in the back. Manning was arrested after fighting with officers, then admitted to police that during an argument, he strangled Burdeaux to death in the parking lot of Walmart in 8100 block of Ritchie Highway. An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Burdeaux also had been sexually assaulted before she died.

At the time of the incident, family members said Burdeaux had dated Manning for approximately 1.5 years, and described her as extremely focused on advancing in her field of study, Patch reported. Her father told WJZ that the family is in extreme pain.

"You think it's going to happen to somebody else, you don't think it's going to happen to you, but then when it hits close to home, my faith in Jesus is holding me together," Randy Burdeaux, Megan's father, told the TV station at that time.
