Gov. Martin O'Malley and the Board of Public Works approved funding Wednesday for two recreational projects in Anne Arundel County, including $1.5 million for upgrades to Fort Smallwood Park in Pasadena. The county will also receive funding towards extending a multi-use trail as part of <a href="http://www.dnr.state.md.us/land/pos/index.asp" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Program Open Space.</a> According to the <a href="http://news.maryland.gov/dnr/2013/01/23/recreational-projects-in-anne-arundel-montgomery-and-prince-georges-counties-to-see-enhancements/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Department of Natural Resources</a>, Anne Arundel County will receive: <ul> <li>$138,853 for two parcels of land totaling 0.8 acres to extend the proposed South Shore Trail by 2 miles, from Maryland Route 3 to Waterbury Road in Millersville. Currently, 0.84 miles are in place near Bestgate Road from Westfield Annapolis mall to the Anne Arundel Medical Center. The trail will ultimately extend 17 miles from Odenton to Annapolis.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>$1,542,506 to develop facilities at Fort Smallwood Park, a 110-acre waterfront park in Pasadena.
