Report: Anne Arundel County Top in State for Generating Tourism Money

The county saw a more than 7 percent increase in money from tourism between 2010 and 2011, according to a new report.

A new report by travel research group Tourism Economics says their most recent study shows Anne Arundel County led all other counties in the state, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Tourists spent $3.2 billion around the county in 2011, and increase of 7.2 percent, the report says.

These numbers do not reflect tourism dollars generated by the Maryland Live casino in Hanover, since it did not open until June of 2012, but proponents of the casino said it would be a destination for gamblers from outside the county and state.

Patch has reported several month-to-month revenue increases in the casino's first year, and any impact of Maryland Live would be reflected in the next annual report by Tourism Economics.
