Arbutus 4th Of July Parade, Soap Box Derby, Fireworks: 2019 Guide

ARBUTUS, MD — With July 4th approaching, Arbutus is gearing up to celebrate Independence Day. To help with planning, we've gathered the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in the area.

What: Firecracker 10K race
Where: Start at Arbutus Middle School, 5525 Shelbourne Road, Arbutus, MD 21227
When: 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 4

What: Soap Box Derby Races
Where: Elm Road at Oakland Road, Arbutus, MD 21227
When: 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 4
The derby has been happening since 1967, founded by Paul Arca, who passed away in 2018. His vision continues this year, and there is a GoFundMe campaign to support the event.

What: Flag Raising Ceremony
Where: Downtown Arbutus
When: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 4; gathering begins at 10 a.m.

What: Arbutus Fourth of July Parade
Where: Downtown Arbutus
When: 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4
The route is from Tom Day Boulevard to Carville Avenue to East Drive, ending in the parking lot of Save A Lot, 5101 East Drive, Arbutus, MD 21227

What: Community Gathering
Where: Arbutus Town Hall, 1349 Stevens Avenue; Halethorpe, MD 21227
When: 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 4

The parade runs from Frederick Road at Montrose Avenue east on Frederick Road to Bloomsbury Avenue, where it ends south on Bloomsbury at the Community Center at 106 Bloomsbury Avenue. See a map of the route with closure information. The event is rain or shine.

What: Baltimore Fireworks Celebration
Where: Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD 21202
When: 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. Rain date is July 5.

Where: Catonsville High School fields, Rolling Road at Valley Road, Catonsville, MD 21228
When: 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4
