Man Robbed at Gunpoint on 295 Footbridge

A 23-year-old Baltimore Highlands man was robbed at gunpoint while crossing the footbridge over the Baltimore-Washington Parkway on Nov. 2, according to a police report.

At around 11:05, the victim was crossing the footbridge, and upon reaching the end of the bridge an unknown suspect holding a black semi-automatic handgun stepped out from behind a tree, the report said.

The suspect pointed the gun at the victim and ordered him to the ground, then went through the victim's pockets and took an iPhone, pocket knife and an undisclosed amount of money, according to the report. The suspect also took the victim's backpack, which contained an iPod, book and Axe body spray, the report said.

The suspect fled on foot across the bridge, running toward Riverview, and was not located despite a search with K-9 and from the air, according to the report.

The 295 footbridge has been linked to several robberies and violent crimes, including a triple shooting on Halloween of 2010 and the beating and robbery of a man in January, 2012, which prompted an enforcement response by county police that reportedly resulted in a decrease in crime around the footbridge.
