BEL AIR, MD ? A fire broke out shortly after 10:45 a.m. Tuesday in a Forest Hill home with a report of a resident trapped inside.

Volunteer firefighters with The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding companies were called to the home located in the 100 block of Marshall Drive. Within 20 seconds of receiving the call for help, firefighters were on the scene, officials said. They found heavy fire coming from the home.

It took firefighters less than 10 minutes to bring the fire under control. However, while firefighters were searching the home, they found a man in the living room who was pronounced dead at the scene, officials announced.

Deputy state fire marshals and K9 Blondie arrived on the scene to investigate and have determined that the fire started in the living room. Officials believe the man found in the home did live there, according to the state fire marshal's office.

"This is another tragic reminder to install and routinely check your smoke alarms. The sooner you hear an alarm, the sooner you can get out. Have an escape plan, and once you get out, stay out. It can be a matter of life or death for you and your loved ones," said Chief Deputy and Acting State Fire Marshal for Maryland Jason M. Mowbray.
