10 People Rescued From Cars During Storm's Rapidly Rising Floodwaters

Ten people were rescued from vehicles when floodwaters stranded them Wednesday night in the Aberdeen area. The storm also spawned tornadoes.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD ? Ten people were rescued from Harford County floodwaters during last Wednesday night's strong storms that brought torrential downpours, wind gusts and tornado warnings across the state.

Volunteers from numerous fire departments, water rescue teams and the Harford County Department of Emergency Services special operations team pitched in to save people. The Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire & Emergency Services reported receiving more than 7 inches of rain that led to flooding in Aberdeen and Aberdeen Proving Ground North.

"The Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire & Emergency Services handled 15 calls yesterday during this time. Our firefighters were hard at work rescuing people from cars that became stranded due to the rising water levels. Units from Aberdeen also provided mutual aid services to Harford County on a structure fire and another stranded vehicle. Working with swift water technicians we have on post and within Harford County, we were able to effectively rescue all parties from their vehicles," the department stated. "Great job by all crews working the storm last night and the crews who rescued a family of four out of their vehicle on Aberdeen Boulevard."

Not only did the Harford County career and volunteer firefighters spend the night engaged in water rescues, they also battled a building fire at the same time.
