13 Bel Air Athletes Competed In Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic
More than a dozen volleyball players from Bel Air competed in the 2019 Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic on Presidents Day.

From Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic: 13 Bel Air athletes joined close to 12,000 others who competed in the 13th annual Mizuno Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic in the nation’s capital over Presidents’ Day weekend. 968 volleyball teams in total participated at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The Classic – using 122 regulation volleyball courts – took up nearly every square inch of space that the Convention Center has to offer.
The place is always packed. It’s truly a sight to behold. The sport continues to grow, bringing the best players to compete, and providing a great experience for everyone who attends.
Created in 2007, this annual tournament originally started with 144 teams. This event has become one of the largest youth signature volleyball tournaments in the world with over 100,000 attendees.
According to the 2017-18 NFHS High School Athletics Participation Survey, volleyball is the
second-most popular sports for girls (trailing track and field) with 446,583 participants in 16,434 schools nationwide. In addition, there are 60,976 boys participating in the sport at 2,472 schools, and 24 states conduct state championships in boys volleyball.
