60 MPH Winds Prompt Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Three counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

MARYLAND — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Harford, Baltimore and Cecil counties until 4:15 p.m.

Before 3:30 p.m, the National Weather Service issued the warning because radar detected severe thunderstorms on a line from Fallston to White Marsh to Essex moving east at 50 mph.

The storms had 60 mph wind gusts, officials said.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, winds may cause trees and large branches to fall, injuring people outside as well as damaging homes and vehicles. Roads could become blocked by fallen trees, and power outages are possible. People should go inside to the lowest floor and an interior room to stay safe.

These areas may be impacted, according to the severe thunderstorm warning: Middle River, Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Dundalk, Bel Air South, Essex, Bel Air North, Perry Hall, Rossville, White Marsh, Fallston, Bowleys Quarters, Riverside,Kingsville, Pleasant Hills, Perryman, Edgewood, Joppatowne and Glen Arm.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday, due to the possibility of storms with damaging winds. A flash flood watch is in effect until 8 a.m. Friday for the region as well.
