A boy who nearly drowned on Memorial Day in Harford County has died. He succumbed to his injuries on Friday at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, The Aegis reported. Zephaniah Muchele, 11, of Edgewood, was in the fifth grade at Magnolia Elementary School, according to the newspaper.

The child was unresponsive and not breathing at a private pool on Neptune Drive when the Harford County Department of Emergency Services received the call about a drowning at 1:47 p.m. on Monday, May 27. The 911 center staff provided pre-CPR instructions to the caller while dispatching crews from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company to the scene.

A Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company member who lives in the neighborhood and heard the fire dispatch arrived at 1:51 p.m. on Monday to begin providing basic life support, according to the fire company. The child did not have a pulse when the member arrived, and by the time he was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, the boy had a heartbeat, officials said.

A GoFundMe account set up to help the family of the child described him as a "sweet and fun-loving 11-year-old boy." The donation page was set up two days after he was hospitalized to assist with medical expenses, and his loved ones confirmed the news of his death on the page on May 31.

"Surrounded by the love of friends and family, Zeph went to Heaven," according to the GoFundMe page. "Both parents have been out of work while they stayed and prayed with their child. There will be hospital bills uncovered by insurance, funeral expenses, and loss of income during this time. Prayers and support for the family are needed."
