Christmas 2019: What's Open, What's Closed In Bel Air

BEL AIR, MD — Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday, meaning local government and other services will take a break mid week. It's a given that many services are closed on Christmas Day, but others will be closed Christmas Eve and surrounding days as well.

We've rounded up the closings and schedule changes to know around Bel Air. Schools are closed for an extended winter break, while other services will run on half-day schedules on Christmas Eve.

Town of Bel Air: All offices closed Christmas Day.

Harford County Government: All offices are closed Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

Harford County Circuit and District Courts: Closed Christmas Day.

Maryland State Courts: All state courts are closed Dec. 25.

Post Offices: Closed Dec. 25. No mail will be delivered.

Harford County Public Schools: Schools are closed Dec. 23-Jan. 1 for winter break.

Harford County Public Library: All locations will be closed Dec. 24-25.

Harford Community College: The campus and all facilities are closed Dec. 21-Jan. 1 for winter break.

Harford Transit LINK: No service Dec. 24-25.

Parking: All meters are free on town-recognized holidays.

Trash/Recycling: There will be no pickup Christmas Day. All collections following the holiday will be one day later than scheduled. Questions about the holiday refuse and recycling collection schedule should be directed to the Department of Public Works at 410-638-4536. If you contract with private provider, confirm schedule changes with the provider.

Landfills/Recycling Centers: The Harford Waste Disposal Center, Tollgate Yard trim drop-off facility and the administrative office will be closed Dec. 25.

Banks: Closed Dec. 25. Some may close early Christmas Eve, so confirm hours with your bank.

Movie Theaters: Most area movie theaters will be open Christmas Day. We would encourage calling your theater of choice to confirm hours.

Grocery Stores: Area grocery stores hours are as follows —

  • Weis Markets: All stores will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All pharmacies in Maryland and Virginia will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores and pharmacies are closed on Christmas Day.
  • ShopRite Supermarkets: Hours vary; check your local store's Facebook page or call the store to check hours.
  • Safeway: Hours: 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Day.
  • Aldi: Christmas Eve: All stores will open with limited hours (use the store locator for hours at your location). Christmas Day: Closed
  • Giant Foods: Bel Air stores will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Select stores will be open on Christmas Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., check the local store's website. All Bel Air pharmacies will be closed.
  • Target: Christmas Eve: Stores open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Christmas Day: Closed.
