Col. Mark Edward Swomley, 71, Of Bel Air
The colonel was a member of the Bel Air American Legion and Bel Air United Methodist Church, his obituary states.

Col. Mark Edward Swomley died Nov. 6 at his home in Bel Air. He was 71.
Born in Hagerstown to the late Edward Lease and Ethel Munshour (Hockensmith) Swomley, he went on to become a C-130 pilot in the United States Air Force, serving for 23 years, according to his obituary, which said he was also a substitute teacher for several years in Harford County Public Schools.
Swomley graduated from North Hagerstown High School, had a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland and a master's from the University of Arkansas, his obituary said. In Bel Air, he was a member of the American Legion Harford Post 39, where he was known as "Air Force Mark." He also was a member of Bel Air United Methodist Church, according to his obituary.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Johnson) Swomley; son, Matthew B. Swomley; daughter, Rebecca S. Griffin and her husband, Edward; grandson, Chase E. Griffin; sister, Patricia K. Freedy, and her husband, James; and four nieces: Laura Havrilla, Kimberly Askin and Kay and Pamela Freedy; as well as a number of cousins.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m Monday, followed by the memorial service at noon at McComas Funeral Home, 50 West Broadway, Bel Air, MD 21014.

In lieu of flowers, people may make memorial contributions to the American Legion or the Humane Society of Harford County.
