Don't Get Spoofed By Fake Cops: Bel Air Police
The Bel Air police are urging residents to be aware of fake phone calls using caller ID spoofing technology.

BEL AIR, MD — The Bel Air Police Department is warning the public about several recent spoofing incidents using the department's phone number. Spoofing occurs when a caller falsifies the information sent to your phone's caller ID display to hide their identity.
Spoofing is often used as part of an attempt to trick someone into giving away valuable personal information so it can be used in fraudulent activity or sold illegally, according to the Federal Communications Commission.
The Bel Air police urge anyone who receives a suspicious call to confirm the identity of the caller before giving any personal information. If the caller claims to be with the police, you can call the department's direct line at (410) 638-4500 and ask for the specific investigating officer.
