Driver Rescued After 2 Hours When Tractor-Trailers Collide On I-95

A tractor-trailer driver had to be extricated from his semi after a crash early Wednesday morning along I-95, officials say.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD ? Shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday, members of the Susquehanna Hose Company were called out for a fuel spill at the site of a crash along northbound I-95 at the 88.8 mile marker. But as crews arrived and started investigating the fuel spill, they heard a crash.

Two tractor-trailers had collided not far away and one driver was trapped. Crews turned their attention to the crash and stabilized the tractor so they could extricate the driver.

"Due to the severity of the entrapment, command requested the Shock Trauma Go Team and aviation for the entrapped patient. As crews continued to work on extricating the patient, the Go Team arrived on scene and began their assessment. After two hours and four minutes, the patient was extricated and then loaded into Trooper 1 for transport to Shock Trauma," the Susquehanna Hose Company reported.

As soon as the driver was safely on his way to the hospital, crews returned to the fuel spill and clean-up, fire officials noted.
