Maryland is reopening, and people are anxious about what that means in terms of their health. According to state data, Maryland.gov reports that since March, over 473,000 people in the state have been tested. The new positive rate has dropped from 26.9 percent to 6.94 percent. This is great news for public health, but it does not mean we can stop testing anytime soon.
As the summer goes on, people will gather for outdoor barbecues and lazy days at the pool. Even in groups of 10 or less, your risk of contracting the virus still exists. Large-scale testing is necessary because it is important to know who is ill in the community and to be able to trace back contacts and to secure isolation. ExpressCare Urgent Care centers are leading the way for testing in Baltimore, Cecil and Carroll counties, and Baltimore City.

ExpressCare CEO Dr. Maurice Reid has secured testing for four Maryland drive-thru sites. These sites have the capacity to test 450 patients a day. ExpressCare also offers all patients a COVID-19 hotline access to find their closest testing site and set up appointments for evaluation and testing. These services are available for all patients through their insurance and are free for uninsured patients. Testing evaluations can be done in person or via telemedicine. The actual viral tests are contactless. You never have to leave your car.
Director Jean Prevas of Advance Practice Providers, said, “The amount of interest in testing is wonderful. We have seen managers sending in the whole office to be tested. That is such a great way to know everyone is starting back to work on the same page — and with a clean bill of health in regards to COVID-19.”

ExpressCare also offers antibody testing for all patients and can accommodate occupational health interests as needed. Antibody testing is just another tool to know if you have had COVID-19 in the last three to four weeks and you potentially did not display symptoms. This is also used as guidance to know when you are safe to return to work.
Getting back to our new normal is what we all are looking forward to. It is important to know what your risks are and to have some guidance in this transition back into the workplace and socializing again. ExpressCare Urgent Care can give you that guidance.
