Free Pets: Where To Adopt On Clear The Shelters Day In Maryland

MARYLAND — Adoption fees will be waived at several animal shelters on Saturday around Maryland for the fourth annual Clear the Shelters pet adoption drive. The event sponsored by NBC helps shelters nationwide find permanent and loving homes for homeless animals during a time of year when adoptions are needed.

While shelters will waive adoption fees on all pets available, regular adoption requirements will apply. Plan to bring a photo ID and any other necessary paperwork to qualify to adopt.

One shelter in Maryland has postponed its participation in the Clear the Shelters event.

Because it took in more than 100 cats in a recent case of animal hoarding, Montgomery County Animal Services reports it does not have the capacity to handle the crowds associated with Clear the Shelters due to cats taking up space at the facility. The shelter says it plans to host a fee-waived event later in the year and will be open for regular hours Saturday.

Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control

Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS)

• Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18

Baltimore County Animal Services

• Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18

Baltimore Humane Society

• Hours: Noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18

Howard County Animal Control and Adoption Center
