HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The Maryland Lottery announced Sunday's winner of the CashVax drawing was from Harford County.

From May 25 to July 3, the Maryland Lottery is giving away $40,000 each day to a Marylander who has been vaccinated.

Anyone 18 and up who lives in Maryland and has been vaccinated against COVID-19 at a non-federal facility is automatically entered into the lottery.

Receiving one shot of the vaccine makes a person eligible, according to the rules.

Nearly 140,000 Harford County residents have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Monday, June 14, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

Prize money for the promotion was pulled from the Maryland Lottery's marketing fund, which was set aside for advertising, according to lottery officials.

Daily, the Maryland Lottery selects a winning number using a random number generator that corresponds to a person who has been vaccinated at a nonfederal facility.

All Marylanders 18 and up who have been vaccinated at nonfederal facilities have been randomly assigned numbers by Maryland Department of Health. (Federal facilities include those run by the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, officials said.)

The Maryland Department of Health, which keeps vaccination records, reaches out to the winners using the contact information they provided at the time of vaccination. Winners can remain anonymous.
