A Love Letter To Bobby

After spotting each other from across the bar, a random suggestion from a mutual friend brought these two strangers together again.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we asked Patch readers to write a love letter to that special someone and let us deliver it. This is Michelle Shivley’s story about her husband, Bobby:

“We saw each other from across the bar, but it didn’t start there. A few weeks after that day, a friend we both knew decided to meet up with him.

Our friend, who I was grocery shopping with this night, was constantly texting someone. Finally I said, ‘Who is more important than me right now?’ She said it was a friend of hers who had recently gotten out of a bad relationship. She asked if we could stop by, and I thought nothing of who it was and tagged along. Oddly enough, he had recently moved into the same apartment complex where we lived.

As soon as I saw it was him -- that mysterious guy I made eye contact at with the bar -- my heart skipped and fluttered, and a fire started inside of me. I had just gotten out of a long term relationship with a child involved, and the last thing I wanted to do was get involved with anyone.

Sitting there listening to his stories of trials and tribulations with his last few relationships, I wondered how in the world anyone could treat such a great person so poorly. After we left, I asked my friend if she would text him to ask if I could have his number. Maybe we could get together for coffee and become friends. I am not one to be the one to make the first moves, but there was just something about him! We hadn’t even left the parking lot of his place when I messaged him with the offer to meet up and get coffee.

Long story short, he came over a few nights later and we have never left each other’s side. We could never picture life without each other now. True love does come when you least expect it. We have been married for seven years, have had two children and still become more and more in love everyday. He is the peanut butter to my jelly.

How in the world were we in the same friends circle our entire lives and had never met before? We will never know the answer but are so truly happy we found each other. We always joke saying we wish we had met each other sooner so we could love each other longer.”
