Margaret Lissie Henson, 95, Of Bel Air

A Bel Air resident who worked as a Woman Ordnance Worker at Aberdeen Proving Ground during World War II has passed away.

Margaret Lissie Henson of Bel Air, passed away on Feb. 9, 2019. She was 95.

She grew up working on her family's farm, the eldest daughter of 12 children. During World War II, she became a Woman Ordnance Worker at Aberdeen Proving Ground, like Rosie the Riveter. For nearly 40 years, she was employed as a seamstress for Gleneagles in Bel Air, her obituary states.

Henson was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge in Hickory and American Legion Auxiliary Post 39 in Bel Air, which she joined in support of her son after he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

While she loved travel and adventure, she also found joy entertaining at her home and hosting crab feasts in her backyard, according to her obituary, which said she "could be seen at age 85-plus pushing her mower to ensure her yard looked good."

Most recently, she lived at Caraway Manor. She was predeceased by her daughter, Betty Jo Grassa, and is survived by her son, William Paul Edwards; Treva Edwards, sibling to Paul; son-in-law, Alfred Grassa; granddaughters Nicole Grassa and Michelle Grassa Kozak and husband, Michael; great-grandson Bennett Cross; and three sisters: Opal Milhimes and husband, Shirley; Ann Brown and late husband, Harry; and Gladys Sullivan and husband, Sterling.

There will be a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at Zellman Funeral Home, following a viewing there from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Zellman Funeral Home is at 123 South Washington Street in Havre de Grace.

Interment will be at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
