MD Coronavirus Cases Pass 400K, Positivity Ticks Up
This week COVID-19 vaccine eligibility will expand in Maryland. Before then, the state has seen an increase in positive tests.
MARYLAND — More than 400,000 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Maryland since the pandemic began, officials said Sunday.
Coronavirus cases statewide total 400,023, after the state health department added 1,007 cases in the last day.
More people have been testing positive for the virus in the past few weeks.

After a downward trend in February, there has been a nearly 1 percent increase in positivity in the past three weeks in Maryland, where officials said the coronavirus positivity rate was 4.4 percent Sunday.
Statewide coronavirus positivity had been 3.46 percent as of Feb. 26. Find out where to get tested for the coronavirus.

Despite the positivity ticking up, the rate of vaccinations has increased.
Nearly 13 percent of Marylanders have been vaccinated for COVID-19, according to state health data reported Sunday.
Currently, the state is in Phase 1 of its vaccination distribution plan.
Maryland will enter Phase 2 of its vaccine distribution plan Tuesday, March 23, in which all Marylanders age 60 and up can receive the COVID-19 vaccine. People can preregister before then.
Based on a discussion with the White House coronavirus task force, Gov. Larry Hogan said starting the week of March 29, all states will start seeing a significant increase in vaccine supply.

As of March 21, 2021, the Maryland Department of Health reports 7,985 Marylanders have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.
Three counties have seen more than 1,000 residents die of COVID-19, with Montgomery County leading the way with 1,410. Prince George's County has had 1,344 fatalities, and Baltimore County has had 1,310 deaths from COVID-19, according to state health data reported Sunday.
One year ago, Maryland health officials said 190 cases of the virus had been confirmed in the state, and three Marylanders had died from the coronavirus — a woman from Montgomery County in her 40s, a Baltimore County man in his 60s and a Prince George's County man in his 60s.
