First responders are selected out of a pool of nominees as a Do Good Hero each month and receive a $1,000 prize to donate to the charity of their choice. Then two grand prize winners ? one from law enforcement and the other from fire and rescue ? are named for the year. They receive a $5,000 prize to donate to the charity of their choice. Krause chose to donate his $5,000 to the University of Maryland Medical System's Child Life Program, which supports children during their hospital stays.
