MARYLAND — By next week, the restaurateur whose comments on social media led to demonstrations at his crabhouses over the weekend plans to have his businesses up and running again. Vince Meyer, who owns Vince's Crabhouse, closed his five locations Saturday after protesters railed against Facebook comments he made about black people.

While he admitted his social media posts were "offensive," Meyer said in a video apologizing for his comments that he was "demonized."

Meyer, who said 75 percent of his clientele is black, announced he would close his five restaurants for nine days.

After demonstrations outside his Middle River location Saturday, Meyer closed his businesses in Harford and Carroll counties, as well as in Baltimore County, where the protest began.

Protests reportedly formed outside locations in Middle River and Fallston in a show of solidarity condemning his comments. The organizer of the protest told the Baltimore Sun that she wants Meyer to publicly retract his comments.

Meyer said he has "a ton of remorse" and while many African Americans were upset with him, he told the Baltimore Sun in a Tuesday interview that he also had a "ton of support from the black community" and is planning to reopen Monday.

Vince's Crabhouse has locations in Fallston, Dundalk, Middle River, North Point and Manchester.
