Rabid Fox Found In Forest Hill Area Prompts Health Alert: Official

A rabid fox was found in the Forest Hill area. Harford Co. officials asked that anyone or any pet who had contact with the fox to call them.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD ? A fox found in the Forest Hill area has tested positive for rabies, officials said.

The Maryland Department of Health confirmed with the Harford County Health Department that the fox did carry the rabies virus. It was found in the 3000 block of Ady Road.

Harford County officials asked that anyone or any pet who was in contact with a fox in that area between May 21-31 contact the Harford County Health Department at 410-877-2300.

County health officials reminded residents to:

1) Always keep pets leashed when out for walks and closely monitored in your backyard.
2) All cats, dogs and ferrets should remain up to date on their rabies vaccinations through their vet
office or local rabies vaccination clinic.
3) Cover trash cans and do not leave pet food outside.
4) Avoid feeding, petting or interacting with wildlife in any way.
