Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Watch Posted In Maryland
A storm warning includes three counties, while a severe thunderstorm watch issued Tuesday includes 14 of Maryland's 24 jurisdictions.

MARYLAND — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of Maryland Tuesday, May 4. Flooding and flash flooding could occur as showers and thunderstorms arrive, according to the watch, which is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Ping-pong-sized hail and up to 70 mph wind gusts are possible during the severe thunderstorm watch period, and frequent lightning could also occur.
Charles, Montgomery and Prince George's counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 5:45 p.m. Severe thunderstorms were on a line from American University to Woodbridge at 4:55 p.m. and were moving east at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Radar indicated there may be 60 mph wind gusts, officials said, as well as penny-sized hail.
These areas may be impacted, according to the severe thunderstorm warning: Arlington, Alexandria, Waldorf, Bethesda, Bowie, Clinton, Fort Washington, Forestville, Largo, Coral Hills, Bladensburg, FortBelvoir, National Harbor, Upper Marlboro, Nationals Park, FedexField, Howard University, Gallaudet University, Fort Totten and Rosslyn.

People in the warned areas should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
14 Jurisdictions In MD Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch
Those under the severe thunderstorm watch should be prepared to move to a safer place in case severe weather approaches.

These jurisdictions are under the severe thunderstorm watch:
- Anne Arundel County
- Baltimore City
- Baltimore County
- Calvert County
- Carroll County
- Cecil County
- Charles County
- Frederick County
- Harford County
- Howard County
- Montgomery County
- Prince George's County
- St. Mary's County
- Washington County
National Weather Service spotters are asked to report any damage or large hail.
The severe thunderstorm watch comes on the heels of tornado warnings Monday night in parts of Frederick, Carroll and Baltimore counties. There were likely tornadoes in Libertytown near Frederick and Charles Town, West Virginia, according to The Washington Post, which reported they had not been confirmed yet.
The National Weather Service also issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of Maryland due to an isolated threat for severe thunderstorms Wednesday with damaging wind and large hail. A gale watch is in effect Wednesday night for all area waters.
