Vacant House Fire In Havre de Grace: Investigators Seek Tips

Authorities are still investigating a vacant house fire on Chapel Road and are asking for information in the case.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A fire in Havre de Grace that caused extensive damage to a home near Bulle Rock remains under investigation. Authorities are asking for help from the public to identify the cause.

Investigators determined the fire started in the living room of the home in the 1700 block of Chapel Road. The two-story home is on property between the Residences at Bulle Rock and Mount Felix Vineyard & Winery, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

At 9:53 p.m. on Monday, officials said the Susquehanna Hose Company and surrounding fire companies were called to the two-story home on Chapel Road.

Flames were visible when crews arrived, and crews contained it within 20 minutes, the hose company reported. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated on site, according to authorities. The Havre de Grace Police Department assisted at the scene as well.

After the state fire marshal and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives worked through the night and into the afternoon Tuesday combing over the premises, officials said Tuesday evening that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

While the damage was described as extensive, authorities said they will need to conduct ongoing assessments to determine a damage estimate.
