Winter Weather Alerts Posted Across Maryland
Snow in the forecast has prompted winter weather alerts for much of Maryland Wednesday and Thursday.
MARYLAND — With snow in the forecast, the National Weather Service placed the Baltimore-Washington area and surrounding regions on alert for winter weather.
Northeastern and western Maryland could see accumulations around 6 inches, and winter storm warnings have been posted for these regions.
Other parts of the metro area may see up to 3 inches of snow, and they are under winter weather advisories.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday calling for heavy snow for Baltimore, Cecil and Harford counties. Forecasters say 3 to 6 inches of snow could fall.
Allegany, Carroll, Frederick and Garrett counties are also under a winter storm warning calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow in western Maryland until 10 a.m. Thursday.

Hazardous road conditions could impact the morning commute in areas under the warnings.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday for Anne Arundel, southern Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
- The winter weather advisory calls for 3 to 5 inches of snow in Howard and southern Baltimore counties.
- The advisory calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow in Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
Due to icy and slippery conditions, people should watch their first few steps outside on stairs, driveways and sidewalks.
If people must drive, they should keep an extra flashlight as well as food and water in their vehicles.

PREVIOUS REPORT— With a few inches of snow in the forecast, the National Weather Service placed the Baltimore-Washington area and surrounding regions under a winter weather advisory.
The winter weather advisory, in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday, calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow.
Slippery road conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Drivers should be careful and people should watch their first few steps on sidewalks, driveways and stairs.
Allegany, Carroll and Frederick counties could see snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches. Locally higher amounts are possible, especially over the higher elevations.
For Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Prince George's counties, snow, possibly mixed with sleet and rain, may leave a coating to up to 2 inches of accumulation south of Interstate 66 and US 50, where a mix with sleet and rain is possible.
The far northwestern suburbs of Washington, D.C., may see 2 to 4 inches of snow.

Forecasters say there is a "slight winter threat" Saturday and Tuesday that could disrupt travel.
Here is the forecast for the Baltimore-Washington region:

Wednesday: High near 38 degrees and low near 30. Chance of snow, mainly after 7 p.m. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. The chance of daytime precipitation is 30 percent, rising to 100 percent Wednesday night.
Thursday: Snow likely, mainly before 1 p.m. High near 34 and low around 25 degrees. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent during the day and 40 percent at night.
Friday: A chance of snow before 1 p.m. High near 32 and low near 25. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Saturday: There is a 70 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 33 and low around 27.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40 and low around 19.
Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 32 and low around 20. Chance of precipitation: 40 percent.
Tuesday: Rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation: 70 percent.
