The National Capital Optimist Club of Washington, DC , to Host Qualifier for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships
Washington DC – The National Capital Optimist Club of Washington, DC, is pleased to announce the FIRST EVER QUALIFIER for the OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS in WASHINGTON, DC. It will be on April 18, 2021 at the up and coming, historic Langston Golf Course and is open to boys and girls 10-18 years old. The top two golfers (shooting the qualifying scores) in each of 7 age/gender groups qualify for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. Continuing the National Capital Optimist Club tradition of offering a golf experience for all kids is a separate, concurrent, free 9-hole event intended for youth who may not be tournament ready.
The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship is one of the largest and best-known junior golf tournaments in the world and this is a great opportunity to participate. Optimist clubs have been involved in the sport of junior golf for more than 30 years by holding local, regional and international tournaments. More than 5,000 golfers compete in official Optimist District Qualifying Tournaments. The best of these golfers, along with golfers from around the globe, advance to the annual Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. Each year, more than 600 golfers compete in the Championships. Former champions and top finishers of the Championships include Lexi Thompson, Beth Bauer, Jonathan Byrd, Jason Day, Bill Haas, Brittany Lincicome, Jeff Overton, Stacy Prammanasudh and Jennifer Rosales.
NCOC has been participating in Optimist Junior Golf for 15 years and has been active in the DMV community since 1938. More Optimist programs NCOC is involved in include Youth Appreciation Week, our Essay Contest, and our Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
The most significant activity of the club is providing financial support to DMV area youth charities and programs. In 2020 in excess of $60,000 was contributed which was earned through our annual fundraiser--selling Christmas trees in Kensington, MD.
Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organization with 60,000 adult and youth members in 2,500 clubs in the United States , Canada , the Caribbean, Mexico , and throughout the world.
