Adieu to Fall!

As we bid farewell to Fall and welcome Winter under COVID-19, artist Vian Borchert reflects on the Fall season while welcoming Winter plans.

As we are getting closer to bidding Farewell to Fall and welcome the chill of Winter, I feel we all should take a moment and reflect on Fall’s beauty. Driving on a windy day with scarcely there leaves on the almost bare trees, I find myself reminiscent of days that just left us and wondering what lays ahead of us. The beauty of Fall in the DMV area is beyond enchanting. It almost feels as if you stepped back in time to precisely the 1800’s and voilà you are in a Monet impressionist painting by the river hearing the wind breeze as it flies within the decaying leaves. Fall has been full on reflection for me this year. In September I debuted my latest art series titled “Reflection” where the solo exhibition I felt brought much needed delight to the eyes of those who have seen the work both in the gallery and online. I felt good to give back through my vision and paintings to all who need a visual escape into the world of art and especially Vian Borchert’s art. Among the paintings there has been raising stars that captured the hearts, minds and eyes of the viewers such as “Spectrum” and “Sailing the Red Seas”. Creating the collection was a chance for me to dive and sail away through my art to an outer world voyage by the sea along sailing the deep waves of my imagination. Ah, this is a slice of an artist’s life! One can view the show “Reflection” and its paintings via the interactive online gallery at this link:

In October, I felt there is more to me than my 2D world and creations. Thus, beyond the vision there is a voice that yearns to be heard. A voice by which I hope to be an anchor of calm midst our current unpredictable time.
I had written poetry for decades in my journals tucked away next to my bed, and some of my poems have been published. Yet, now I felt more than ever I shall not hide, I will open up and share my voice with the world. The funny thing that I heard lately is that the audio of my voice is pleasing as well as the unique way of reciting poems that I should work for radio! Well, why not! I welcome the idea!

Beyond the usual observation on nature and taking in its beauty and charm, I’ve been conducting online art classes for the Fall term through Zoom. My online classes have been so well received, and I am happy to see that my art education and teaching brings much needed peace and tranquility to the students through the practice of art making. Many of my art students have thanked me and told me how much they looked forward from one week till another to be in class and that the class was the highlight of their Fall season especially through these trying COIVD times. The gratefulness and appreciation of students brings so much joy to my heart as an art educator.
Consequently, I will resume teaching my Watercolor class on Monday mornings and my Drawing class on Friday mornings in the upcoming Winter session of 2021. Classes begin on Jan. 25 and are till March 8.
Here are the links and info for each class along with the registration links.
