Bethesda Student Wins 2021 Congressional Art Competition
A Walter Johnson High School student won the 2021 Congressional Art Competition for Maryland's 8th District. Here's where to see her work.
BETHESDA, MD — A student at Bethesda's Walter Johnson High School has won the 2021 Congressional Art Competition for Maryland's 8th District.
In a press release Wednesday, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) announced that Yun Ji Choi's digital piece — "Promise To Keep You Safe" — will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a year alongside the winning entries from every congressional district in the nation.
Nearly 130 students from more than 30 high schools participated in this year's 8th District competition. Seventeen students were recognized as second-place honorees. Their artwork will be displayed in Raskin's Capitol Hill and Rockville District offices.

District 8 encompasses parts of Montgomery, Carroll, and Frederick counties.
"Congratulations to Yun Ji Choi on winning this year's art competition for 8th District high school students," Raskin said. "I salute the 17 second-place honorees and thank all of the student participants for sharing their boundless artistic vision."

The second-place winners from Montgomery County include:
- Olivia Brett-Major and Katherine Yoon — Holton-Arms School, Bethesda
- Nadine Vos — Stone Ridge of the Sacred Heart, Bethesda
- Jerry Ji — Landon School, Bethesda
- Myka Fromm — Richard Montgomery High School, Rockville
- Yonina Levisohn — Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy, Rockville
- Joyce Wang — Thomas S. Wootton High School, Rockville
- Sofia Montes Garzon, Regina Orradottir, Kelsea Petersen, and Grady Williams — Albert Einstein High School, Kensington
