Commute Alert: Freezing Rain Likely Into Monday Evening
Roads will become hazardous, warns the National Weather Service. Montgomery County is under a winter weather advisory.

BETHESDA, MD — Several Maryland counties, including Montgomery, are in for a nasty mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain through Tuesday.
Montgomery County is under a winter weather advisory that began at 1 a.m. Monday and runs through 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the National Weather Service calling for a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.
Other areas included in the weather alert are Anne Arundel and Howard counties.

Maryland State Highway Administration crews are plowing and salting highways in an effort to keep roads passable for the Monday evening commute. But highway officials warn that sleet and freezing rain could fall in time for the afternoon rush hour, and drivers should stay off the roads during freezing rain.
Look for accumulations of 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet, along with one-tenth of an inch of ice from freezing rain.

The snow began early Monday, and will change to sleet and freezing rain Monday afternoon.
The precipitation will switch to all freezing rain Monday evening. Precipitation will gradually change to rain late Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Temperatures will rise into the lower 30s Monday into Monday night and remain above freezing Tuesday morning, according to the forecast.
Snow and ice will cause slippery roads and travel will be difficult.
