County Reports Fewer Than 100 COVID-19 Cases For 18 Straight Days

Montgomery County added 31 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, pushing its total since March 2020 to 70,530.

BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County registered 31 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, marking the 18th straight day that cases dipped below 100.

The latest addition pushes the county's pandemic total to 70,530, according to data released by the Maryland Department of Health.

One more coronavirus-related death was recorded overnight, bringing the local death toll to 1,489.

The latest fatality count does not include the 46 others whose deaths were linked to the virus but never confirmed by a lab test. For now, they are considered "probable deaths."

Montgomery County — which is home to roughly 1 million people — continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 84,460, according to the latest figures.

Across Maryland, there have been 456,216 cases, 8,740 confirmed deaths, and 192 "probable deaths." Of the 613 people currently being hospitalized statewide, 159 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The positivity rate measures the percentage of COVID-19 tests that come back positive in a one-week span. According to data released Monday, Maryland's test positivity rate is 2.51 percent. In Montgomery County, it's 1.47 percent — up from 1.41 percent the day before.

To date, Maryland has administered 5,572,782 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among those, 3,000,584 were first doses and 2,357,617 were second doses.

In Montgomery County, 614,678 residents (58.5 percent) have received their first dose. A total of 489,378 residents (46.6 percent) have already gotten their second and final shot.
