BETHESDA, MD — The deadline to apply for the Montgomery County Council's Commission on Redistricting has been extended.

Interested residents now have until 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020 to apply for consideration. The positions must be filled by Feb. 1, 2021.

The county is divided into five districts for the purpose of nominating and electing five members of the County Council. But the ballot questions in the upcoming election could change the number of districts the county has.

The Commission will be composed of 11 registered voters who live in the county — and they will present a plan of Council districts to the councilmembers.

Up to four of those members must belong to a political party that polled at least 15 percent of the total vote cast for all County Council candidates in the last regular election. At least one member of the Commission must reside in each Council district.
