Draw an Apple, Paint an Apple, Eat an Apple
Art Instructor V. Borchert upcoming Fall Art classes open for all budding art lovers at the Yellow Barn Studio, Glen Echo Park.

Some of the most simple things can make great still life subject matters especially for the budding artists. Apples are not only healthy for you, but they are a natural work of art! In my art classes, where students with no prior knowledge of the arts are fully welcome, I teach the novice art students how to approach a still life such as an apple, a pear and a banana. In my art classes, I guide the students on how to create works of art of objects that are around them. I inspire my students to look at matters creatively by telling them that their healthy snack such as an apple can not only be delicious, but also very inspiring.
In my Beginning Drawing and Watercolor painting classes, I aim for the students to look at these still life subject matters with fresh eyes to see the beauty of each apple. I inform the students that not one apple is the same like the other. Apples of the same family might look similar, yet each is unique in its own beauty. Some apples are more red and patchy, others are more smooth, some have lots of lines and dots while others are plain. The beauty in teaching art for me is in opening up the students’ eyes to the shapes, lines, proportion and depth of the subject that they are drawing or painting.
In drawing, it is really all about lines. Line marks and shading help turn the drawings from 2D to appear 3D. In painting, we enter the wonderful world of multi-colors by using paint tubes to mix the paints and use brushes and even sponges to create beautiful fields of color, be it a landscape or a pear.
My Fall classes will start around in September. Enrollment is currently open. Classes are held at the Yellow Barn Studio on MacArthur Blvd just a few minutes from DC and Bethesda and Chevy Chase. The Yellow Barn Studio is located in the historic Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo, MD.
